Papa Choy’s Bano 1xW, 1xW OTC
Papa Choy had been around the circuit for some time and had wanted to own a dog for himself but was unable to do so since his father would not allow him. Only after when his old man passed away on 2002 was he able to bring home a Dozer bred dog. Later he started tinkering with game-bred ones of unknown origin and as one could guess, most of these dogs fell short of what was expected. His luck changed when his group was able to acquire Kano, a direct son of Pitside’s Tyson 1xW 2xL. They bred Kano to a bitch they called Mot Mot, a dog of unknown pedigree but was a game one nonetheless, and out of the said breeding was a funny looking pup they called Bano.
Bano was actually the pick of Papa Choy’s friend Ron, but Ron gave the pup to Choy because Bano was a handful for a 6 month-pup. Choy was hesitant because of the dog’s unknown lineage on the dam side, but several shots of alcohol made him reconsider. But this reconsideration came with the itch to bump the young pup to a 2 year old match prospect they called Poklat. Upon release, Poklat gunned for the front end first, then swapped for a stifle hold to pop a bleeder within three minutes. And to Papa Choy’s delight Bano scratched back to Poklat despite a gaping hole on the dog’s stifle which could fit two fingers. Papa Choy knew he had a keeper.
Bano was given six months to recover and upon turning a year old was rolled again to Cholo, who was a Taco-bred dog. Bano was the aggressor with head holds after release and then kept trying for a stifle hold while Cholo showed his mettle by keeping the young dog at bay. Bano was persistent and Cholo’s owner called a stop after eight minutes.
When Bano turned eighteen months, Choy decided to see what Bano was worth once and for all with an OTC match against the boys from PASLANG and their dog called Erap. Paslang Kennel's Erap was as tough and pit intelligent as they came, however Bano was just persistent in trying for stifle hold until he was able take Erap by the balls. This attempt was not without consequence since Erap would have none of it. It took five scratches before Erap quit and Bano was declared the winner of the OTC match at the 0:33 mark even if he was not properly schooled.
Choy and Ron decided it was time to take a shot at a sanctioned match with Bano. They sought help from OCK to get the dog hooked. While waiting for any word from OCK, Choy and Ron came across a dogman who bragged about the dogs he fed. For reasons perhaps only Choy and Ron would know, they agreed to roll Bano with the said dog man’s stocks. He made Ron and Choy choose among his prospects and they chose a brindle dog which was much bigger than Bano.
It seemed the said dog man was all hot air. Bano made the brindle dog a rag doll upon release. To save face, the dog man asked to test Bano with another one of his prospects then and there. Again, Bano put the bragging dog man in his place when Bano again wiped the floor with the new challenger with a gut and stifle hold. Still, the dogman was undeterred and asked for a third match with Bano. Again Bano hushed him. Three dogs in thirty minutes. Ron and Choy were happy. However, OCK was not because the dog could have been ruined and they already found an opponent for a contracted match for Bano.
With help from OCK, Bano was whipped into shape for a contracted match at 34.5 against GPK’s Luppie. Bano came in at 33.75. Luppie was the crowd pick since GPK was on a winning streak that time and was gunning for Kennel of the Year. But the crowd was won over by Bano fifteen minutes after the match began as he was the dominated his rangy opponent by swapping between front end to stifle then stifle to head then back to stifle again. Choy called a turn on his dog to begin the scratching and after four scratches Bano was a sanctioned winner at the 0:40 mark.
Bano never got his shot at another match since Ron and Choy got busy with personal and work related matters and the raids became frequent at the time. One could only wonder what it would have been like had the circumstances been different.
